Voters defeated personhood amendments in both Colorado and North Dakota but failed to defeat the anti-abortion measure in Tennessee, Amendment 1. “If we are to win in the future, we must engage our faith communities and continue a conversation about compassion and justice,” says Cherisse Scott, CEO of SisterReach. “We must include an analysis of poverty, comprehensive sexuality education, and other issues that impact poor people across our state.” A pathway forward from the hiccup of Amendment 1 includes recognizing the intersectionality of abortion access.
