TRUST BLACK WOMEN: A LITANY FOR WORSHIP

TRUST BLACK WOMEN: A LITANY FOR WORSHIP1

One Voice: It is with the voice of Deborah, Judge, leader, warrior that we declare…

Many Voices: We MUST Trust Black Women to lead.

One Voice: It is in the voice of Jael, wife & strategic fighter that we declare…

Many Voices: We MUST Trust Black Women to FIGHT and fight alongside them for what their families need.

One Voice: It is in the voice of Tamar, Daughter of David, unprotected, undervalued, raped and discarded that we declare…

Many Voices: We MUST Trust Black Women when they seek protection or speak out and protect each other from sexual and relationship violence from strangers, friends OR family.

One Voice: It is in the voice of the Shulamite of Song of Songs, Black and Beautiful, owning her body and her passions that we declare…

Many Voices: We must Trust Black Women to exercise bodily autonomy and support their fully valuing themselves as whole, beautiful and embodying the Image of God.

One Voice: It is in the voices of Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah, the daughters of Zelophehad who advocated for themselves to gain the inheritance that would preserve their family that we declare…

Many Voices: We MUST Trust Black Women to articulate their needs in order to change laws that exclude, abuse or oppress people based on gender.

One Voice: It is in the voice of the hemorrhaging woman, bent, bowed, broken, yet bold enough to press through a crowd and touch a healer that we declare…

Many Voices: We MUST Trust Black Women to determine and access their healthcare needs on their own terms regardless of socio-economic status or location.

One Voice: It is in the voice of the Syrophoenician woman who, desperate for her child’s healing, spoke boldly to Jesus himself and changed her circumstances and Jesus’ perspective that we declare…

Many Voices: We MUST Trust Black Women to push back against those in authority who would deny their needs by belittling, judging and dismissing them. Their voices and their truth have the power to change minds and hearts.

One Voice: It is in the voices of the wailing women, bearing witness to pain and death that we declare…

Many Voices: We MUST Trust Black Women who mourn the deaths of their loved ones at the hands of a system that seeks to consume Black bodies and mourn with Black women when those consumed Black bodies are female or femme.

One Voice: It is in the voices of the women who went to the tomb on the third day—still mourning, still serving—and found that Jesus was no longer there; these women who were the FIRST to proclaim the Good News that we declare…

Many Voices: We Must Trust Black Women to navigate their own faith journeys and proclaim a Good News that includes themselves as active and whole. In the spirit of these first proclaimers of the Gospel of radical love and acceptance of ALL of God’s children, TRUST BLACK WOMEN because Black Women are the Image of God.
